Bethany Celebrates One Hundred Fourth Commencement

Richmond, Indiana--On Saturday, May 9, Bethany Theological Seminary celebrated its one hundred fourth commencement. Two observances marked the occasion. A ceremony for conferring degrees took place in Bethany's Nicarry Chapel, and a worship service was held at the Richmond Church of the Brethren.

Bethany Holds Second Presidential Forum

Forum GroupBethany Theological Seminary hosted its second annual Presidential Forum March 29-30 with the theme Weaving Wisdom’s Tent: The Arts of Peace.  Focusing on scripture from the Wisdom of Solomon 7:23-81, wisdom was invoked and examined throughout the forum.  Gathered together to weave poetry, painting, song and spirit, participants experienced varied forms of art in these two full days.

Bethany Board of Trustees Holds Spring 2009 Meeting

The Bethany Theological Seminary Board of Trustees gathered at the Richmond, Indiana, campus for their semi-annual meeting March 27-29, 2009. The board retained its current officers: Ted Flory, Bridgewater, Virginia, chair; Ray Donadio, Greenville, Ohio, vice chair; Lisa Hazen, Wichita, Kansas, secretary; Carol Scheppard, Mount Crawford, Virginia, chair of the Academic Affairs Committee; Elaine Gibbel, Lititz, Pennsylvania, chair of the Institutional Advancement Committee; and Jim Dodson, Lexington, Kentucky, chair of the Student and Business Affairs Committee.

Mission Impossible. Russell Haitch, associate professor of Christian education and director of the Institute for Ministry With Youth and Young Adults, presented a paper titled "Mission Impossible? Applying insights from Africa to evangelism with Western youth" at the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry at Cambridge University. Participants in the conference included persons from North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Bethany Seminary Names New Academic Dean

Steven Schweitzer, Assistant Professor of Old Testament at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) in Elkhart, Ind., will become Associate Professor and Academic Dean at Bethany Theological Seminary beginning July 1, 2009.

All this is from God!”   David is a Master of Divinity graduate of Bethany, and District Executive Minister of the Virlina District, Church of the Brethren.
