Dr. Tamisha Tyler is Published in New Theopoetics Book

Dr. Tamisha Tyler

Dr. Tamisha Tyler, visiting assistant professor of theology and culture and theopoetics, contributed an essay to Theopoetics in Color: Embodied Approaches in Theological Discourse, a 2024 book published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company.

Theopoetics in Color is a collaborative communal volume that gathers scholars and artists of color from the Theopoetics community to offer a peek into how they engage in Theopoetics. It marks a timely and important turn in the field,” says Dr Tyler.

The book includes 13 essays by a diverse group of scholars of color who provide a variety of approaches to, and perspectives on, theopoetics. The volume was edited by Oluwatomisin Oredein and Lakisha R. Lockhart-Rusch and includes a foreward by Cláudio Carvalhaes.

Dr. Tyler’s chapter is entitled, “A Theopoetic Method: Four Movements,” and it is closely connected to her teaching at Bethany and her participation in a larger scholarly and artistic community.

“Part of my contribution was to capture a method for Theopoetics, one I use in most if not all of my classes at Bethany. This text should be used in every Theopoetics course and beyond. I am proud of the work and community we have built. I hope others will be as well.”

Dr. Tyler served Bethany for two years as Louisville Institute Postdoctoral Fellow before joining the faculty full-time fall. Read more about her appointment here.

The book is available from various bookstores and online retailers.
