The teaching assistant for Spirituality and Ecology (T218/T218-B) will assist in course
administration, including 1) Setting up and updating Moodle site, 2) helping monitor chat
during class sessions, 3) tracking student participation and assignment submission, and
4) generally contributing to student learning. If desired, assistant may participate in class
preparation, gaining some experience in planning, implementing and evaluating a
graduate-level course.

Duties and Responsibilities

The assistant is expected to monitor weekly class sessions and meet regularly with the
instructor. The student will be responsible to upload files to Moodle for students to
access, especially prior to first class session (to be done during the summer, if possible),
and track student participation in the online course. Other tasks may include leading
tutorials for students, assisting with small and large group discussions, or assisting with
comments on papers. The specific tasks involved are negotiable and vary depending on
the interests of the assistant and the needs of the students taking the course. Other duties
as assigned.

Skills Required

Computer skills, especially familiarity with Moodle; attention to detail; able to work
independently after give task; desire to learn about teaching, course construction,
pedagogy; ability to communicate well with students; respect for diversity of views and
understanding of the nature of the topics being discussed.
