Writing Coach will serve as a tutor for strengthening the writing skills of seminary students. The Writing Coach will work with students in need, moving them toward independence as writers. The focus will be on improvement of skill and assistance in writing rather than the writing of particular assignments. The Writing Coach will not focus on content or theological arguments.


Duties & Responsibilities:

The Writing Coach will meet with students who are recommended by the teaching faculty or the Director of Student Development. This may be done in person, via video technology or phone, or via email. They will use previously written papers by the student in need to note patterns needing change. The Writing Coach will help the student identify and understand these patterns and develop stronger writing skills. The Writing Coach is not a theological tutor, and will not recommend changes to the content of any papers, but assist with logic, flow, structure, and appropriate written presentation of the student’s ideas.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • Solid background in grammar and punctuation
  • Familiarity with Word or other word processing programs
  • Ability to encourage
  • Ability to name shortcomings/provide critique in helpful ways
  • Ability to remain focused as a tutor and not become a content editor
