Bethany Offers Public Workshop

Dr. Kathryn House

Bethany Theological Seminary is hosting a workshop entitled “Cultivating Presence in Uncertain Times” led by Dr. Kathryn House, assistant professor of leadership studies and practical theology Meadville Lombard Theological School. The workshop will be Monday, April 6, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Bethany Seminary, 615 National Road West, Richmond, Indiana.

Dr. House earned her PhD from Boston University School of Theology. She was previously a visiting professor at Louisville Theological Seminary. Her scholarly work has been included in the journals Theology and Sexuality and Perspectives in Religious Studies and she has published chapters in three books. She is in demand as a conference presenter, invited speaker, and preacher.

The workshop is sponsored by the Bethany BOLD program. BOLD (which stands for Build, Organize, Love, and Dare) is a service-based program that challenges residential students to put their faith and education into practice by helping local organizations address community needs while they pursue graduate degrees.

This workshop is underwritten by the Jennie Calhoun Baker Endowment, funded by John C. Baker in honor of his mother. Described as a “Church of the Brethren woman ahead of her time,” Jennie was known for actively pursuing peacemaking by meeting the needs of others, providing community leadership, and upholding the value of creative and independent thinking in education. John Baker, a philanthropist for peace with a distinguished career in higher education, and his wife had also helped establish the peace studies program at Bethany with an earlier endowment gift.
