Katy Gray Brown Joins Board of Trustees

Dr. Katy Gray Brown joined the Bethany Theological Seminary Board of Trustees in October 2024. 

Dr. Brown is Professor of Philosophy and Peace Studies at Manchester University, where she is chair of the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies and director of the Peace Studies Institute and Program in Conflict Resolution. She joined the Manchester faculty in 2007. Her academic work includes degrees in peace studies from Manchester (B.A.) and the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute (M.A.) and doctoral work in philosophy at the University of Minnesota (Ph.D.). 

She has published and presented at academic meetings on a variety of topics including American Indian philosophy, the spiritual and political dimensions of nonviolence, and pedagogy. Prior to her arrival at Manchester, she taught at the University of Minnesota, University of Saint Thomas, and Metropolitan State University.

Dr. Brown and her husband, David Hupp, are members of the Manchester Church of the Brethren and are also part of a house church, Common Spirit – North Manchester. They have three children, Milo, Calvin, and Sam. 

She will attend her first Bethany board meeting in March of 2025.
