Opening Our Doors to the Community

Bethany Theological Seminary forges strong ties to the community by sponsoring a wide range of community events — from meetings of non-profit boards to training sessions led by outside organizations, to a variety of public events focused on education and the arts.
Following are some examples of events from this semester.
On Sunday, September 20, 2025, the Seminary dedicated its Steinway Grand B piano with a special concert by the celebrated concert pianist Norman Krieger. Playing pieces by Beethoven, Gershwin, and Debussy, Krieger demonstrated the excellence of the instrument, which is now in use during weekly workshop services and musical events in Nicarry Chapel. This event, which drew an audience of about 50 invited guests, was made possible by a fund established by Professor Emerita Nancy Faus.
On Wednesday, October 1, Richmond Mayor Ron Oler visited with our residential students to discuss leadership and currents issues in the City of Richmond. The students appreciated the chance to get an insider’s view of city government.
On Monday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 21, the Indiana Suicide
Prevention Network provided an intensive workshop for a group of social services professionals. Attendees appreciated the hospitality and the well equipped facilities that the Seminary provided.
On Monday, October 27, 2025, Bethany welcomed Dr. Heather DuBois of Boston College for a workshop entitled, “Between Awe and Action: Fostering a Trauma-Informed Community.” Attended by more than 30 people, the event was sponsored by Bethany BOLD, the Seminary’s signature, service-based program for residential students. It was underwritten by the Jennie Calhoun Baker Endowment.
On Sunday, November 16, 2025, Nicarry Chapel was the site of a staged reading of a new play by Jonathan Graham, director of marketing and communication at Bethany. The play, entitled Sufficient Grace, focused on theological themes and brought together local writers, theatre artists, students, and others for a performance and discussion.
