Bethany Co-Sponsors Zoom Lecture by Alumnus Nick Patler

Bethany Theological Seminary is co-sponsoring a Zoom lecture by Nick Patler, MA 2015, entitled: “Taking Charge of Destiny: Black Activists and Freedom Seekers in Wayne County’s Underground Railroad” on Thursday, April 30, at 6 p.m.

The event is co-sponsored by the Black Legacy Project of Wayne County Indiana, Levi and Catherine Coffin House State Historic Site, and the Wayne County Historical Museum.

Nick Patler is a writer and historian. He has published two books, Pinchback: America’s First Black Governor (University of Mississippi Press, 2025), which won the Kemper and Leila Williams Prize in Louisiana History, presented by the Historic New Orleans Collection, and Jim Crow and the Wilson Administration: Protesting Segregation in the Early Twentieth Century (University Press of Colorado , 2020). He has published essays and scholarly articles in various venues including Brethren Life & Thought and Quaker History and Theology.
