Accountability: The Director reports to the President

Key Relationships: Director of Marketing and Communications, Administrative Assistant for Institutional Advancement, Social Media Coordinator, Executive Director of Business and Administration, and the President

Description: Director of Fundraising and Constituent Relations will develop and lead the Seminary’s “mass-market” fundraising appeals and maintain a portfolio of donors (individuals & churches) capable of giving in the $1,000-$25,000 range.

The Director will strategize and actively work to build relationships with a
variety of constituents, enlisting financial support for the Seminary.

General Responsibilities

The Director will:

  • Plan and implement a comprehensive mass market fundraising program for all Seminary constituents (alumni, churches, friends, faculty, staff & students) to support the Seminary’s mission and build a pipeline of support to improve participation, dollars raised, and donors engaged among each population and the constituency as a whole.
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of a detailed comprehensive operating plan and calendar each fiscal year utilizing a multi-channel marketing approach (direct mail, email, phone, social, and digital) to increase total donors and dollars annually with a primary focus
    on increasing donors to the Bethany Fund.
  • Research, qualify, cultivate, and solicit alumni, churches, and friends capable of making aleadership annual gift while maintaining explicit monthly goals for the Bethany Fund
  • Average a minimum of 10- 12 face-to-face visits per month, and 2-3 leadership annual gift solicitations, accounting for approximately 35-40 percent of the Director’s time, and communicating with the President regarding travel plans and goals.
  • Work closely with the President in the planning and executing of constituent events and activities in support of Flourish, a financial campaign supporting the mission of Bethany
  • Coordinate Bethany’s presence at select local, district, and denominational conferences
  • Develop and implement a program of alumni relations.
  • Develop and implement a program of congregational relations and support.
    Synthesize special fundraising emphases into the overall fundraising strategy to build greater consensus and support for the overall mission and program of the Seminary.
  • Maintain record of contacts in RazorsEdge.
  • Provide appropriate acknowledgement and reporting of contributions to the Seminary.
  • Stay apprised of the latest gift instruments in use by charitable organizations and approved by the IRS and be knowledgeable in using them.
  • Establish and maintain basic office procedures, equipment, records, and policies to assure anorderly operation of the department and the careful, confidential handling of information related to the Seminary’s various constituent groups.
  • Assemble or provide information needed to complete activity and reports for external agencies (e.g., ATS, CAE, BMG Associates, etc.) for the purpose of participating in cross-institutional studies as well as internal assessment of the department’s mission effectiveness,
    cost-effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned and appropriate, recognizing that Institutional Advancement is a dynamic office requiring occasional participation in assignments that are not specific to annual giving and constituent relations.
  • Participate in periodic professional growth experiences.
  • Maintain regular office hours at Bethany Center.
  • Participate in life at the Seminary on campus.
  • These actions shall be consistent with the overall policies of the Seminary as established by the Board of Trustees.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and fundraising experience is required. The ability to work effectively with many diverse constituencies in an inclusive religious environment should be evident.
