The Passing of Esther Lang

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news of the passing of Esther Lang. Esther died Monday afternoon at Reid Hospital where she was in hospice care. Esther was much beloved by the Bethany community and it was a great joy to celebrate her service to the Seminary at her recent retirement gathering. An obituary and details about Esther’s service and visitation are below.

On behalf our the entire Bethany Theological Seminary community, I offer condolences to Esther’s family and friends.

—Rev. Dr. Jeff Carter

Esther Louise (Faucett) Lang, 82, passed away July 24, 2023, surrounded by family after a battle with dementia and cancer. She was born January 13, 1941, the 5th of 12 children, to Raymond and Harriett (Lilly) Faucett; she lived in the Richmond, and Centerville area most of her life.

Esther graduated in 1961 from Richmond High School. She worked at Carters Restaurant until it closed; she worked at the Indianapolis Glove Factory and Stayco. She completed training to become a CAN, but her most recent job was at Bethany Theological Seminary where she worked as a custodian for 23 years until her retirement on May 12, 2023; a job she thoroughly enjoyed, and took lots of pride, along with sharing her homemade goodies with everyone there.

She attended First Friends Meeting.

Esther is survived by her son Jeffrey Lang of Centerville, her daughter Sheryl (Dino Capprotti) Lang of Ocala, Florida, two grandsons Zach Chassee of Atlanta, Georgia, Brian (Debra) Capprotti, one granddaughter Maddie Lang of Connersville, one great-grandson, and three great-granddaughters; one brother Robert (Betty) Faucett of Economy, five sisters Margaret Buroker and Donna Walcott both of Richmond, Carolyn (Tillman) Harris of Dunlap, Tennessee, Janet Roark of Ocala, Florida, Naomi (Joe) Vance of Centerville, several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lewis Lang, one grandson Spencer Rose, five brothers, Dale, Dwain, Joe, Harry, and David Faucett, and many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to give a great big “Thank You” to the 5th Floor nursing staff, and to Dr. Desantis and the Hospice team; also Dr. XU who took the time to explain things to us.

Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Etling officiating; burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
