Church of the Brethren agencies and partners offer classes and events throughout the year that qualify for continuing education units (CEUs) for clergy. Most of these events are also open to laypersons for personal enrichment. Some are offered online, while others are held onsite. Information on this page provides links to these opportunities.

 

Bethany Theological Seminary

Bethany offers a variety of courses that are available to clergy for 3.0 CEUs. To view a PDF listing of current and upcoming courses, please reference Bethany’s Academic Catalog. Clergy seeking CEUs may apply as auditing, occasional, certificate, or degree students. To determine which is best for you, visit our  admissions page and/or contact the Admissions Office.

 

Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership

The Brethren Academy offers courses throughout the year that are available to clergy. Completion of an Academy class earns 2.0 CEUs. Laypersons may take the classes for personal enrichment. For more information, please see our course listings.

 

Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center

SVMC offers courses in their five partner districts throughout the year that are available to clergy for CEUs: Atlantic Northeast, Southern Pennsylvania, Middle Pennsylvania, Western Pennsylvania, and Mid-Atlantic. To view upcoming events, please visit the SVMC Continuing Education web page.

Annual Clergy Tax Seminar

The Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership will offer its Clergy Tax Seminar, a live online webcast, in January or February. It is highly recommended for all pastors and other church leaders who wish to understand clergy taxes, including treasurers, steward commission chairs, and church board chairs. This seminar is also sponsored by the Church of the Brethren Office of Ministry and Bethany.

McPherson College

McPherson College offers Ventures in Christian Discipleship, live online sessions, throughout the year. The programs are designed to empower lay people, especially in smaller congregations, but are equally meaningful to clergy. Ventures encourages participants to carry out the work of discipleship, following in Jesus’s footsteps to transform themselves and the world.
